ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION
ART WORKS in Johnstown! is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that celebrates and showcases the vibrant local arts community. The organization is located in the historic Cambria City in the West End of Johnstown. It is housed in a 18,000 square foot turn-of-the-century industrial building which is being renovated under "green" guidelines, the first of its kind in the area. ART WORKS in Johnstown! will provide 20 customized art studios, galleries, classrooms, performance space, and a living green room. ART WORKS aims for a communal art setting where artists can create, teach, sell.
Our Mission
The mission of ART WORKS is to provide a nationally prominent cultural center to make available affordable studio space for artists to create, teach and sell and to provide the community with the opportunity to experience art through education, exhibitions and performances. These two functions will enhance the cultural and economic growth of the Greater Johnstown region.
Our Vision
To revitalize the cultural and economic life of the Greater Johnstown Region through the development of a nationally prominent cultural center which attracts visual, craft, industrial, performance, heritage, and technology artists to work and live in our community along with local, regional, national and international visitors who share an interest in their work.
History of Organization
The idea of ART WORKS began in 2002, when BOTTLE WORKS Ethnic Art Center recognized the potential to help initiate a new entity that would specifically increase economic development and cultural tourism in the Johnstown, PA region. However, this new entity or idea was beyond the mission of BOTTLE WORKS and thus ART WORKS was born. In May 2007, all the necessary actions for ART WORKS to gain 501(c)(3) status, such as board of directors, mission, by-laws, insurance and financial accounts were completed.
