The Vision of ART WORKS in Johnstown! is to revitalize the cultural and economic life of the Greater Johnstown Region through the development of a nationally prominent cultural center which attracts visual, craft, industrial, performance, heritage, and technology artists to work and live in our community along with local, regional, national and international visitors who share an interest in their work.

The Mission of ART WORKS in Johnstown! is to provide artists with the tools to cultivate their artistic vision and their sense of business.  We will give students the opportunity to experience art personally and foster their talents as well.  At the same time, we will serve as a catalyst for additional economic growth and cultural enhancement for our community by providing artists the opportunity to sell their work from a centralized and visible location.

It is an economic development engine which not only encourages people to discover Johnstown but also encourages them to live here.

It will become a desirable cultural attraction and the only facility within the city dedicated to creating, exhibiting, and selling visual art.

It is based on a proven model, developed in numerous locations, and
it provides community access for all age groups and backgrounds to a non-threatening, relaxed and inviting atmosphere.

It complements the efforts of the Johnstown Area Heritage Association, the Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center, Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, the Inclined Plane, and all historical and natural attractions to promote cultural tourism in the area.

It will strive for artistic excellence which will encourage art-focused visitors to join the Johnstown community, convinces working artists to be invested in a community that supports them, and raises the level of understanding and appreciation for those who are new to the art world.

It will celebrate and showcase the already vibrant local artist community by creating a new and ever-changing venue for the region, whether your fascination is watching a jeweler at work, taking pottery classes, or attending a printmaking workshop.

Some things you should know about ART WORKS in Johnstown!

ART WORKS in Johnstown! will be sustainable! A financial model with multi-year projections is available and indicates that revenues, including studio rentas, will cover operating costs.

It is being renovated in compliance with the US Green Building Council LEED for New Construction and Major Renovations.  It will be the first of its kind in Johnstown.
Expect to see a new point of Johnstown pride, an environmentally conscious facility.

It has already been earmarked for partial funding by the Commonwealth of PA , the City of Johnstown, the County of Cambria, the Sustainable Energy Fund of the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, and other business and private entities.
