Cultural Assets

Allied Artists of Johnstown represents regional professional and non-professional artists. The group sponsors juried and non-juried exhibitions throughout the year.

Arcadia Performing Arts in Windber offers year-round quality performances in a beautifully restored turn-of-the-century vaudeville theatre.

Band of Brothers Shakespeare Company is dedicated to educational enrichment of both actor and community through the production of classic theater in the Laurel Highlands Region.

BOTTLE WORKS Ethnic Arts Center is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the cultural diversity of the peoples of this region through their Arts. The former industrial building hosts 4-6 celebrations of heritage and tradition throughout the year with exhibits and supporting activities.

Cambria City Ethnic Festival held Labor Day weekend, annually. The nationally recognized historic neighborhood opens the churches for tours and their kitchens for fabulous ethnic foods. The Festival also includes performances, children’s crafts and demonstrating artists.

Community Arts Center of Cambria County offers a variety of programs including exhibits and crafts. Coordinates the popular Labor Day Loghouse Arts Festival, Festival of the Trees, Holly Bazaar and Book Fair Bonanza.

Cresson Lake Playhouse is located in a wooded area overlooking Cresson Lake. The summer theatre stages productions in a pre-Civil War barn.

Johnstown Area Heritage Association showcases the Johnstown story in three distinct facilities:

  • Johnstown Flood Museum – stunning exhibits and Academy Award winning movie capture the famous Flood of 1889.
  • Pasquerilla Heritage Discovery Center – America through Immigrant Eyes tells the national story in a local context. The center will also be the home of the new Children's Discovery Museum in late 2007.
  • Wagner-Ritter House – interpretive museum housed in the home of two steel-working families, demonstrates how they lived and even what they planted in their backyard German raised-bed garden.

Johnstown Concert Ballet is a school dedicated to the teaching of classical ballet. The Company performs an annual “Nutcracker” and smaller performances and workshops.

Johnstown FolkFest is a huge free Festival staged every Labor Day, and featuring the tops in Folk entertainment. Staged on the newly developed Festival Park on the site of the historic Cambria Iron Company's Lower Works.

Johnstown Symphony Orchestra provides live performance of high quality classical orchestral music, featuring local, regional and internationally known artists, to the broadest possible diverse audience.

Mountain Playhouse of Jennerstown is the oldest performing stock theatre in PA. The productions in the restored gristmill are Broadway quality throughout the season.

My Idea of Fun is an Artist Collective based in Johnstown, PA.

Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center at UPJ offers the opportunity to explore and create the Performing Arts in a magnificent 900-seat theatre.

Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art has Loretto, PA as the location of its main museum with three other sites in Johnstown, Ligonier and Altoona. SAMA strives to preserve and exhibit American Arts and is dedicated to making its educational programs and art programs accessible to all.

The World Famous Friendly City PolkaFest held Memorial Day weekend, annually. National Polka bands and ethnic foods offered by the churches and vendors.
